The Guinea-Bissau Red Cross Society (GBRCS), with the support of the Qatar Red Crescent, carried out on Monday the donation of 16 heads of cattle to the country’s Islamic community as part of the celebrations of Tabaski, one of the most important religious events in the Muslim calendar.
The humanitarian initiative aims to support families in situations of social vulnerability and strengthen the values of solidarity, sharing, and human dignity during the festive period. The cattle were distributed in Bissau and across different regions of the country, benefiting dozens of communities.
According to the organizers, the distribution was coordinated with local community and religious leaders, ensuring that assistance reached the most vulnerable families in several parts of the country.
Speaking on the sidelines of the handover ceremony, the President of the Guinea-Bissau Red Cross Society, Daniel Vieira, highlighted the social and humanitarian significance of the initiative, emphasizing the importance of cooperation with international partners in strengthening humanitarian actions in the country.
“This gesture symbolizes the Red Cross commitment to the principles of humanity, solidarity, and support for communities. Tabaski is a moment of unity, sharing, and fraternity, and we wanted to stand alongside the Islamic community during this important celebration,” said Daniel Vieira.
He also expressed gratitude to the Qatar Red Crescent, partner of the initiative, for its support and contribution to the successful implementation of the solidarity action.
The Guinea-Bissau Red Cross Society reiterated its commitment to continue developing social and humanitarian initiatives for vulnerable populations, promoting assistance without distinction of origin, belief, or social condition.
The beneficiary Islamic community expressed appreciation for the initiative, considering it an important support for many families during the Tabaski celebrations.
Tabaski, also known as Eid al-Adha, is celebrated by millions of Muslims around the world and represents values of faith, sacrifice, solidarity, and helping those in need.
